Bobby Joe Bailey

Bobby Joe Bailey passed away on Tuesday November 5th 2024.  Bobby was born on April 5th 1937 in North Carolina to Joe and Mary Bailey.  Bobby was a long-time resident of Wilmington Island having moved to Savannah in 1970 to continue his career as an Air Traffic Controller having learned the trade as a proud member of the United States Air Force. 

Bobby was a friend to many and would help someone, friend or stranger, at the drop of a hat.  He would leave a Christmas present for the folks picking up his garbage for a number of years.  Bobby was an avid runner who ran more than one marathon.  Bobby was as good a handyman as there ever was.  He was a car mechanic and air condition technician among his many talents.  Bobby was a long-time member of Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church where he was active as an Elder and did many maintenance projects. 

Bobby is survived by the love of his life, Wilma Gainey Bailey, who he was married to for 68 years.  Bobby is also survived by his sister Sue Bailey (Jimmy), his son Ronald Lex Bailey (Maria) and daughters Bobbi Ann Bailey and Becky Jo Bailey, and his grandkids Bailey Scarboro (Carly), Reese Scarboro, and Wyman Bailey, one great grandson, Waylon Scarboro, and many nieces and nephews.   Bobby was a true Bon Vivant.

Celebration of life services are Saturday November 9th at 11 am at Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church.  Any monetary remembrance in Bobby’s name should directed to the church.
